Introduction

There has been a lot of confusion about how DocuNote run in form-login environments versus Active Directory environment. Many internal terms have been used, like Cloud, DocuNote Online, DocuNote Express, Form-login, Active Directory (AD)-login and On Premise.

There is only one DocuNote solution, but it can configured in different ways.

• From DocuNote 7.1, Microsoft Entra ID Authentication is supported for Form-based solutions (Contact DocuNote Support for further information). Both Entra ID and Form login cannot be used simultaneously.

Dictionary

Form-login – Form login means that the user enters a username and a password at login, rather than being logged in using Single Sign On and Windows Credentials. Form-login is used for customers who buy a hosted solution that they prefer not to integrate with their Active Directory, which require additional hardware/software/routers. Using Form-login makes some features in DocuNote unavailable. A Form-login solution cannot be combined with an Active Directory login solution. Form-login users and groups must be maintained in DocuNote, as there is no access to Active Directory Synchronization.

Active Directory login –Windows credentials are used to login the user automatically. This solution require that the DocuNote servers are located On Premise, or a Hosted solution that is integrated with the customer’s own network, using additional hardware/software/routers that combines the servers to the existing network.

On Premise – Means that the servers are located at the customer’s own network and facilities, and is fully integrated into the Active Directory.

Hosting – Hosting is offered customers who do not want to maintain servers at own facilities. Hosting offered by IntraNote through partners like Atea, or using the customers own Hosting partner. When using Hosting, it can be chosen to integrate with the customers Active Directory, or to use the Form-login approach.

Performance differences

Form-login solution is basically the same solution as the Active Directory solution. The DocuNote Desktop Client and DocuNote servers are exactly the same. The difference is how documents are transferred between the server and the client. Differences in performance can be caused by using hosted environment.

Having DocuNote installed on premise has the following attributes

• Internal Giga-speed LAN connection between Server, Document Silo and Home Directories
• Internal Giga-speed LAN connection between wired Clients and Server
• Low latency from DocuNote Desktop Client to Server, especially using wired ****Clients
