A case can be locked or unlocked with all its subitems inside to deny or restore the user's privileges. Privileges include moving, deleting, editing properties, checking out documents for edit, managing document versions.

To lock a case, right-click it and select Lock from the context menu.
When locked, the item's icon will have a "lock" indicator . Any subitems that reside in a given case will be locked automatically too.
To unlock a case, right-click it and select Unlock from the context menu.

Controlling properties for locked items
By default, you cannot change properties for locked cases. But this can be changed by activating the relevant settings under “Settings”> “Cases” / “Documents” (see Cases / Documents settings)
(580) Lock case properties when case is locked - if set to No, a user can still modify case properties after the case has been locked;
(579) Lock document properties when case is locked - if set to No, a user can still modify document properties after its parent case has been locked.
