The system field Parties on any DocuNote item's Properties form contains the users, groups, contacts and Identification that are related to that item. If the item's metaform includes contact, user and/or group picker fields, the entities from these fields will be transferred to the item's parties field automatically.
The same party can appear several times in the list of parties. This can happen if, for instance, the party has been selected in a contact picker on the case and in a contact picker on a document, from which parties are automatically copied to the parent case.

It is available to save contacts with Signer or Approver role types specified on the Request signing form as parties on the parent case. When you specify contacts and start the signing process, the contacts are automatically saved into the Parties field of the signing document’s parent case.
To configure such option, set the Save signers as case parties (Signing (Adm) - Settings) setting to Yes value.
