Introduction

AI Chat answers questions about your documents. You open it from the DocuNote client, pick a project to chat in, and ask. The project decides which model answers, how it is told to behave, and which documents it always knows about; the documents you had selected when you opened the chat come along for that session only.

This page is the user guide for the chat window itself. Setting up the model behind it is a separate job for a system administrator — see AI Chat - LLM setup.

1. Opening AI Chat

Select the documents you want to ask about in the DocuNote explorer, then click AI Chat on the ribbon. The chat opens in its own window.

• The ribbon button appears only for users who hold the module permission Access to AI Chat.
• Whatever you had selected when you clicked comes with you into that window. Only documents count — folders, cases and other node types are ignored.
• The selection is read once, when the window opens. Selecting something else in the explorer afterwards does not change a chat window that is already open; open a new one instead.
• You can have several chat windows open at the same time.
